Update June, 2010 CCIDC did not hear from either organization by May
15th, so the Bylaw amendment was motioned before the board and discussed. The board felt strongly that both designated seats for ASID and IDEC remain and voted down the proposed amendment. Both
designated seats for ASID and IDEC will remain on the CCIDC Board of Directors. The person currently occupying the IDEC seat on the board will remain until their term expires, and the ASID seat, which is
currently vacant, will be filled by a nominee from the eight California ASID Chapter Presidents within 30 days from May 18, 2010, or failing the nomination of a suitable candidate the CCIDC board will
select a candidate for this designated seat.
April, 2010
As some of you may, or may not be aware, CCIDC recently received letters from both IDEC (Interior Design Educators Council) and ASID (American Society of Interior
Designers). Both letters were in regards to their respective organizations seats on the CCIDC board of directors. These seats on the CCIDC board of directors were originally
granted to both IDEC and ASID, along with the other professional organizations (IIDA, formerly IBD and ISID, IFDA, IDS and subsequently (1999) NKBA), at the inception of
CCIDC in 1991 at the behest of their California members.
The underlying theme of both these recent letters is a wish on the part of both national
organizations to no longer comply with the directorship requirements of the CCIDC Bylaws. In order to acquiesce to their requests CCIDC has responded with letters to both
organizations and a "draft" amendment to the CCIDC Bylaws removing both organizations from the CCIDC board.
Both organizations have the opportunity to reverse their decisions on behalf of their California members by May 15, 2010 whereby the CCIDC board will, by motion, approve
the Bylaw amendment if they do not hear anything to the contrary.
Copies of the original letters from IDEC and ASID are attached to the "draft" Bylaw
amendment along with the response from CCIDC which can be viewed by clicking on the following links:
